Roadmap for the legal status and citizenship of over 11 million undocumented immigrants

The elected president reassured his commitment to providing a “roadmap for legal status and citizenship for more than 11 million undocumented immigrants” during the first 100 days. [1]

In an extensive interview with Lester Holt of NBC News, Biden has said that he will work with Congress to pass an immigration bill that provides a roadmap to legal status and citizenship for more than 11 million undocumented immigrants. [1]

He assured that he will work on this outstanding issue to ensure the world, the US as an open and welcoming country for immigrants as he believes that these immigrants play a vital role in the development of the country for many decades.

He said that immigrants are hard-working people and that our community and our country desperately need them and that they are making a significant contribution to the growth of our country.”

Looking at past amnesties, since Congress passed the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) in 1986, the nation sees 7 Amnesty schemes including nation specific Amnesty, which benefit millions of undocumented immigrants.

Congress Passed Seven Amnesties [2]
1. Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA), 1986: (also known as the Simpson-Mazzoli Act) A blanket amnesty for some 2.7 million illegal immigrants
2. Immigration and Nationality Act 245(i) 1994:  for 578,000 illegal immigrants
3. Section 245(i) Extension Amnesty of 1997
4. An amnesty for about one million illegal immigrants from Central America. Nicaraguan Adjustment & Central American Relief Act (NACARA) 1997 Amnesty.
5. An amnesty for 125,000 illegal immigrants from Haiti 1998, Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act Amnesty (HRIFA)
6. Late Amnesty, 2000An amnesty for about 400,000 illegal immigrants who demand, they should have been amnestied under the 1986 IRCA amnesty.
7. LIFE Act Amnesty, 2000 for about 900,000 illegal immigrants. A reinstatement of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty.

According to President Elect-Biden, who launched major immigration reforms during his election campaign, these reforms are mandatory to assure the world that the United States is open and welcoming to people around the world.

He said that immigrants are hard-working people and that our community and our country desperately need them and that they are making a significant contribution to the growth of our country. These immigrants came out of the shadow’s decades ago when the most recent amnesty was announced 20 years ago in year 2000.

He said that he will provide a clear roadmap to legal status and citizenship for unauthorized immigrants”

Undocumented immigrants just not belong to the Latino communities, but from every part of the world. There were 1.7 million from Asia, hundreds of thousands from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Profile of the Illegal Immigrants Population: By Region [3]
Demographics  Estimate  % of Total
Illegal Immigrants Population 10,977,000 100%
Profile of the Unauthorized Population by Region
Central America & Mexico 7,425,000 67.64%
Caribbean 406,000 3.70%
South America 783,000 7.13%
Oceania/Europe/Canada 648,000 5.90%
Asia 1,485,000 13.53%
Africa 230,000 2.10%

Biden must face certain challenges, first of all, he must correct the laws anti-immigration and the tactics that were brought in by President Trump’s administration during his tenure to tighten immigration policy like Public Charge Rule and separate children from their families.

Second, as it may face challenges from the Republican majority senate to pass the bill that provides a road map to citizenship for over 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Third, as The United States is considered as the close end country for legal immigration, especially for low-profile jobs that citizen are unwilling to work requires a modern immigration system that will meet the future needs of the country to ensure steady growth.

With reference to his website, in 2015 the IRS raised $23.6 billion from 4.4 million workers without social security numbers, many of them undocumented immigrants. Indeed, according to the Congressional Budget Office, the full 2013 immigration program would, over time, increase the size of the economy by 5%. [4]

He said that he will provide a clear roadmap to legal status and citizenship for unauthorized immigrants who register, are up-to-date on their taxes and passed a background check.

It is expected to be somewhat similar to previous amnesties that benefit millions of people because this type of measure has been long overdue for 20 years.
